Mercedes Company lengthened E-Class especially for Chinese market


International Auto China 2010 Motorshow shown a new special Mercedes-Benz E-Class and BMW 5 series with wheel base lengthened in 14 centimeters. Mercedes limo didn’t get the length of S-Class. This widened E-Class received additional “L” letter.

As a result E-Class has 5012 mm of length and 3014 mm of wheel base. It seems that width and height stayed the same. All additional free space was created for rear passengers. This car also received increased clearance, bixenon lights, Thermatic climate control system, panoramic glass roof, rear seats heating, hatch with electric drive, automatic air condition, KEYLESS-GO function, COMAND DVD system and multimedia system with displays mounted in headrests for high-ranking passengers. A chassis-designation was renamed in V212 (instead of past W212).

Widened version with additional free space for rear passengers’ legs (+140 mm) will be accessible in three variants (E 260 CGI Elegance, E 260 CGI Avantgarde and E 300 Avantgarde). Sales of E-Class will start in summer. E-Class cars will be produced by Beijing BenzAutomotive Co., Ltd (BBAC) which belongs to Daimler AG and Chinese Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Company (BAIC). About 40% of all parts for these cars will be produced in China.
