Hydrogen Mercedes-Benz is ready for serial production

In the end of this year Mercedes-Benz Company will start producing first hydrogen serial automobiles based on B-Class model. According to firm representative the car’s name will have prefix F-Cell and as dynamic characteristics as in a car with simple 2-liters engine. Mercedes B Class engine will be electric (136 hp of power) with lithium-ion batteries.

Electricity for batteries generates by special power installation on gas cells during the chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen. Electricity also generates by system of energy recuperation during the braking. As pointed in the Mercedes-Benz Company, the components of power installation located in a car platform (because of modular layout with two platforms). That’s why it won’t take a place in a saloon and won’t reduce the luggage space.

Cruising range of hydrogen Mercedes-Benz B-Class about 385 km with top speed of 170km/h. Fuel consumption is 3.3 liters on 100 km like in a car with super economy gasoline engine. B-Class F-Cell will have electric engine with 136hp as concept E-Cell Plus. Furthermore cars with this power installations called “environmental friendly” because theirs exhausting is a water. The first products of hydrogen Mercedes-Benz B-Class will be delivered in a start of 2010 year. The price for Mercedes F-Cell is unknown.
