According to rumors Mercedes-Benz examines ability to produce a fully new compact crossover which might be called GLC. This crossover can be one of the first models being built on a new module platform. This novelty will receive B-Class platform with ability to use front-wheel and four-wheel drives. It seems that GLC will be wider in 20 mm than B-Class. Production start is already approved.
Mercedes-Benz design studio in Sindelfingen (Germany) works under exterior of GLC. Mercedes-Benz company decided to deny direct edges of GLK-Class. Mercedes-Benz took some idea from BlueZero concept and made GLC more soft from the outside.
At the same time a new GLC will have wide wheel arches, high window line and difficult works on sides. The smallest Mercedes-Benz crossover will be offered with gasoline V4 1.8-liter engine and DFI. Also GLC will have 1.-liter Renault engine (due to partnership agreement) and two versions of Mercedes diesel engine. All engines will work in cooperation with six-level mechanical gearbox.
Also GLC will have recuperation system during braking, electromechanical steering and start-stop system. It is not excepted that GLC would have power unit working on alternative fuel. GLS might have hybrid and hydrogen versions. GLC is expected to be in 2013.
