Mercedes-Benz cars will warn pedestrians about approaching

Mercedes-Benz company introduced renewed system of night vision (Night View Assist), which will warn pedestrian about approaching of a car at night time, and also allow driver to see people in time and avoid accident. This system will be available for all top models from summer 2011.

Warning will work only during driving not more than 45 km/hr and in case of headlight switcher being turned on in “Auto” mode. At the same time pedestrian must be not further than 80 meters from a car. Only on this distance infrared cameras being installed in front headlights will be able to “see”.

Exactly these cameras can recognize a man who is standing in risk zone. Special multipurpose camera located on a windscreen will identify day time and presence of any transport on the oncoming traffic lane.

After these all operation information goes to electronic control block which will “decide” what to do next: warning or not. If it is necessary a system will make four short light “signals” in pedestrian’s side. If lower beam of headlight works one of the main headlights will illuminate pedestrian about 5 seconds, but not more in order not to blind him.

If any transport appears on the oncoming traffic lane a system won’t work in order not to blind another drivers. Night View Assist system was introduced first in 2005 on Mercedes-Benz S-Class cars. Also it has been being installed on E-Class since 2009. This technology allows to recognize pedestrians and display it helping to avoid road accident.
