Mercedes-Benz came down with “green” topic. This disease is in a hard phase. Germans introduced Mercedes S Class hybrid and don’t forgive about other topics. Hybrid car will appear in the market soon. Now it is staying like preserial and is calling Blue Zero E-Cell Plus.
This is the second version of concept with the same calling but without title Plus. So just this car was shown in Detroit. BlueZero E-Cell was fully electrical and looked very futuristic. Besides electricity this car uses power of internal combustion engine. Scheme of hybrid drive is simple. E-Cell starts moving exclusively due to 136hp (320Nm) electrical engine which receives power from lithium-ion batteries.
And 1-litre 3-cylinder gasoline turbo-engine with 67hp of power works exclusively for batteries charging during moving. E-Cell travels around about 600km with internal combustion engine and fully charged batteries. But at the same time it can travel 100km with only electric motive power. Besides dynamics of “green” Mercedes is very good. E-Cell accelerates to 100km in 11sec with total speed of 150km/h.
It is more than enough for urban moving. Batteries can be fully charged in six hours using home socket and in half an hour due to special equipment. To the point, E-Cell which was built on modernized A-Class platform is a hint of appearance of new generation of B-Class. A car will be introduced in 2012 but serial production will star next year.

Nice post. This is the first article I’ve read about the SLS AMG E cell that listed the HP and battery life. Pretty impressive specs.
