Mercedes-AMG introduced a new V8 engine with two turbines

A new V8 engine with two turbines having 5.5 liter (M 157) will come instead of present 6.3-liter power unit. Despite of changed capacity in liters present abbreviation will stay. Overhauled S-Class will be called S 63 AMG as in the past times. A new engine has 544hp of power (plus 19hp against 6.3-liter variant) and 800Nm (plus 170Nm) of maximal of torque. Besides 670hp are avaliable in case of 1500 turns of engine speed.

Total power of this engine increases till 571hp (plus 46hp) and maximal torque increases till 900Nm (plus 270Nm) due to AMG Performance optional package. Engine mass is about 204 kg. Piezoelectric oil burners are used besides direct fuel injection in construction of this engine. Tractive force goes through 7-speed AMG Speedshift MCT transmission which has “stop-start” system. As a result there are 25% of fuel saving.

This engine will make its debut in summer in 2010 on Mercedes-Benz S 63 AMG. Mercedes Benz S Class AMG car accelerates till 100 km/hr in 4.5 seconds with 250 km/hr of maximal speed. Representative S-Class accelerates till 100 km/hr faster in 0.1 seconds and total speed increases till 300 km/hr due to AMG Performance optional package.
